The Story
Millennia ago, angels loved humans. That union corrupted them, plunging Heaven into civil war. Or so the archangels say.
Now, anyone who loves across the boundary is condemned to Hell.
Haniel, Heaven’s chief enforcer, executes its laws without hesitation. But her partner, Ceraphel, taught her that their bond could be more than duty. He taught her to love him.
Now he has committed the ultimate sin and fallen for a human.
When Haniel offers him a chance to renounce his sin and return to her, he demands instead to sever their bond. But divine vows cannot be unmade, and Haniel has never been good at surrendering what belongs to her.
Yet stories of Ceraphel’s defiance have spread. And other angels are beginning to wonder if Heaven’s laws are optional.
Haniel will grant him severance. But it will not be through prayer or a priest.
